On a global scale, Muslims are facing poverty, political turmoil, disunity, and discrimination. Our history has spanned over 1400 years, and we are often told that our current situation is at a low.
“You are the best nation produced [as an example] for mankind. You enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and believe in Allah. If only the People of the Scripture had believed, it would have been better for them. Among them are believers, but most of them are defiantly disobedient.” (3:110)
How is it the best nation seems to be in such a catastrophic condition? What defines greatness, and if we are not achieving it, how do we go about reclaiming it?
“No, you will be numerous at that time: but you will be scum and rubbish like that carried down by a torrent, and Allah will… last enervation into your hearts. Someone asked: What is wahn (enervation). Messenger of Allah (ﷺ): He replied: Love of the world and dislike of death.” (Abu Dawud 4297)
