Here’s just a taste of things we do and hope to get you involved in the various working groups, there is something for everyone…
Our objective is to convey the true message of Islam to ALL students on campus and to bring to light the contents of this amazing way of life to those who do not know about it and, to those who do, we try and increase their knowledge and remove any misconceptions so that everyone can achieve TRUE success.
Our responsibilities include:
- Dawah stalls: situated outside Students Union, once a week, where information can be obtained about Islam and maybe even some queries answered.
- Talks: Delivered by scholars
- Regular circles: These usually take place once a week, in both campuses for those interested in learning more about Islam
As many of you may find out later, Muslims on campus like to work hard and play hard! Unfortunately, the activities that are usually advertised by the Students’ Union and other societies are not halaal (i.e. have an element of alcohol, free-mixing, etc). Therefore, your ISoc will insha’Allah be providing you with many alternatives – halaal activities ranging from Eid parties and go-karting to paint-balling!
If you want to help organise or suggest any other social activities then please join the social activities working group!
This working group has a direct effect on you as you are already a member of the University of Manchester Students’ Union. We are all about campaigning for you on matters of concern to Muslim students, the general student body and the wider community.
- Working with the Students’ Union and other societies: there are so many societies at the University and some of them deal with issues that touch the heart of Muslim students and effect the wider student population. This is a great way to spread the message of truth as well.
- Media: The Student Direct: the official SU newspaper, largest readership of all British University newspapers exceeding 60,000 at four institutions. Produced weekly and distributed in four Student Unions and halls of residence. If you come across an article which you feel deserves appreciation, or on the other hand, perhaps is incorrect or unjustified, then be sure to let your journalistic streak emerge and voice your thoughts by emailing the paper.
- The ISoc website: bookmark our Web address (www.manchesterisoc.com) and be sure to visit often for regular updates.
