The Qur’an is the sacred text of Islam, which Muslims believe to be the word of God revealed to the final messenger – Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). It is the main source of guidance for Muslims around the world and is regarded as the finest piece of literature in the Arabic language.

The University of Manchester Islamic Society in collaboration with likeMEDIA.tv invites you to retrace those precious moments in history when the Qur’an was being revealed directly to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) as a divine manual that would forever change the world. A 60‐ 90min presentation (no breaks) incorporating spoken word poetry from Boonaa Mohammed, infused with live Qur’an recitation with Qari Uthman Qasim and translation with multi‐ media accompaniment – a great way to introduce the early story of Islam in a fun and creative manner.

- Dehumanisation, drugging and depression were common features in Guantanamo.

- Guantánamo holds “the worst of the worst”…

- Military violence of the worst kind on its own citizens…

- These are dangerous terrorists; there has to be a place for them and Guantanamo is secure…

- Justice does not exist at Guantanamo!

How much have you achieved, seen, lost and felt in the last ten years? Time ultimately changes us all but for the 171 men still in Guantanamo, their friends and families, time has stood still. Guantanamo Bay is the world’s most notorious prison and has attracted the condemnation of human rights campaigners since the first detainees arrived. Opened 10 years ago following the conflict in Afghanistan, and despite Barrack Obama promising Guantanamo’s closure in 2009, it still remains open and can house suspects without charge.

The Islamic Society have invited James Yee (former US army chaplain at Guantanamo) to discuss his experiences. Join the discussion and hear firsthand experience of the goings on behind the wire.

A HUGE HUGE THANK YOU to everyone from The Islamic Society who took part in the EID presents for charity! The gifts were delivered today to Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and the rest was taken to Francis House.

I cannot tell you how HAPPY the CHILDREN were and how their faces LIGHTENED up. I wish you all were there to see it yourselves. Nearly all the presents were given to SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN who have just come off intensive unit.

Don’t worry if you missed the chance to take part we shall be doing this again during CHARITY WEEK insh’Allah.

So many presents were generously brought in and this could not have happened without the help of you all.

Please check the candidates profiles, which include manifestos, these are displayed in both prayer halls (South campus – Mcdougals Prayer Hall & North campus – Sakville Street Prayer Hall)

When can I vote?

*VOTING PERIOD* will commence on Monday 7th November until Friday 11th November.
Be sure to come along and MAKE YOUR VOTE COUNT!

Ballots will be held at BOTH North and South Campus Prayer halls at the following times;

NOTE – Student Card required to vote

Monday 7th – 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM [North and South Prayer Halls]
Tuesday 8th – 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM [Prayer Halls]
Wednesday 9th – 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM [Prayer Halls]

Can you believe it! It seems that only a couple weeks ago we had Eid-ul-Fitr and now we have Eid-Ul-Adha round the corner. Subhan’Allah

EID Prayers

You’ve celebrated Eid with your family and friends, but now it’s time to celebrate with everyone else on campus.

Join the FUN filled EVENTS and ACTIVITIES whilst spreading the joy of EID.

Eid prayers will be at 10:00am on Sunday 6th November insha’Allah in the Mcdougals Prayer Hall – (South Campus number 91 on University map)
